Music Tech trade body relaunches network for female founders
LONDON, 24 June 2026 – Music Technology UK (MTUK), the trade association for the UK’s Music Tech sector, has appointed Sarah Jones as Chair of FemTUK, its community supporting female founders and aspiring founders in Music Tech.
Sarah was most recently General Manager at leading concert discovery platform Songkick, where she spent seven years. Prior to Songkick, Sarah was Head of Global Business Development and Operations at the BBC, leading international partnerships and commercial growth across its audio and digital services.
The appointment comes as part of a relaunch of the FemTUK programme, with an ambitious agenda focused on practical support for women building Music Tech businesses.
Launched earlier this month, MTUK’s Sound Investments 2026: Back the Sector report reveals that just 12.4% of UK music tech companies are female-led. This compares to 16.3% across the broader tech sector and 18% for the UK economy overall. Within MTUK’s own membership the figure is slightly higher, at 14.6%.
The gap widens further when it comes to funding – between 2020 and 2025, only 38.1% of female-led Music Tech companies received equity funding. Over that period, female-led companies accounted for 18.6% of equity deals, and captured just 5.39% of total equity investment by value.
Established in 2025 by Charlotte Caleb, FemTUK is MTUK’s initiative supporting female-identifying founders and future founders. Its focus is peer support, shared experience and creating visible role models at the stage in the pipeline where many potential founders are still deciding whether to start.
Under Sarah’s leadership, the programme will position itself as a practical platform for female entrepreneurship in Music Tech, connecting founders, operators, investors and ecosystem partners to help more women start, grow and scale businesses in the sector.
The relaunch will be marked by a flagship event, From Side Hustle to Startup, bringing together founders, operators and aspiring entrepreneurs for a conversation on the realities of building a Music Tech business – from validating an idea and finding early customers, to navigating setbacks and growth. Sarah Jones, Chair, FemTUK, said: “FemTUK isn’t about creating another networking group. It’s about building the UK’s leading community for women who want to start and scale Music Tech businesses, and giving them the confidence, practical knowledge and connections to turn ideas into companies. There is huge untapped entrepreneurial talent in our sector, and I’m excited to work with the community to help unlock it.”
Matt Cartmell, Chief Executive, Music Technology UK, added: “Sarah brings exactly the energy and focus FemTUK needs. This isn’t just about events – it’s about building a real pipeline of female founders into the sector.”
