Music Technology UK Announces Sound Investments 2026 In Collaboration with KPMG UK

Second annual report on UK music tech investment to launch at SXSW London in June

Music Technology UK (MTUK), the UK’s trade association for the music technology sector, today announces that Sound Investments, its flagship annual report on investment into the UK music tech sector, will return in 2026, produced with Lead Sponsor KPMG UK.

Now in its second year, Sound Investments 2026 will be produced with data partnership support from research house Beauhurst, alongside international comparisons from Tracxn. The report will continue to act as the definitive industry reference for investors, policymakers, and senior stakeholders seeking to understand the scale, dynamics, and challenges facing one of the UK’s most innovative growth sectors.

But the 2026 report will go further, to provide the evidence base for funds and companies wanting to raise capital, while also supporting policy-makers to act.

Sound Investments 2026 will cover investment patterns, company growth stages, the regional landscape, the international competitive context, and direct asks to government – including the regulatory clarity, infrastructure, and skills support the sector needs to compete on the global stage.

MTUK will launch Sound Investments during SXSW London, on Monday 1 June, 12:15-12:55 BST, at Protein Studios, Shoreditch. This will be followed on Tuesday, during its two-day MTUK+SXSW London programme of events at the House of Music and Entertainment (H.O.M.E) in Shoreditch, with a further discussion on its insights.

The 2025 edition – Sound Investments: The Case for UK Music Tech – reported that UK-originated companies are producing world-class innovation but facing a funding cliff that is forcing many to seek US capital and, in some cases, US ownership.

Matt Cartmell, Chief Executive of Music Technology UK, said:

“Sound Investments has quickly become the go-to resource for anyone who wants to understand where UK music tech is heading and what stands between this sector and its full potential. Collaborating with KPMG UK for the 2026 edition gives us the analytical firepower to go deeper on the data and speak with greater authority to the investors and policymakers who need to act on it.”

Nat Gross, Partner and EMA Head of KPMG Media Practice, said:

“UK music tech is a world‑class blend of creativity and innovation, but the funding environment remains highly competitive. Sound Investments 2026 will provide the evidence investors and policymakers need to understand where capital is flowing, what’s holding growth back, and what it will take to scale the sector. Supporting MTUK builds on our ongoing commitment to helping high potential founders access the insights, networks and capital they need to grow, and to strengthening the UK’s innovation ecosystem.”
